Driving through the New South Wales, discover friendly, historic towns with a contemporary edge thanks to the thriving market for fresh local produce and wine from regional vineyards.

The increasing number of vineyards and olive groves reaches far beyond the Great Dividing Range to places including Young, Cowra, Orange and Mudgee. Venison, trout, olives, nuts, cheeses and stone fruits are just some of the specialties in these districts. There are also wine growing areas outside Canberra in the Murrumbateman and Hilltops regions.

While wine and food are a driving force behind much of the interest for travellers there’s more to discover once you are there as every town has a wealth of local heritage. You can’t pass by the Southern Highlands without stopping to look around Mittagong, Bowral and Berrima and a little further on, Goulburn and Yass.

Autumn and Spring are the best times to appreciate the varied seasons of areas such as the Southern Highlands, Bathurst and the Blue Mountains and of course the mountain air, glorious views and attractions of towns such as Katoomba, Leura and Blackheath are tempting at any time of year.

Glasshouse Mountains

The Glasshouse Mountains in the hinterland of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast are actually the cores of 20 million year old volcanoes. The sides of the volcanoes have eroded away leaving only the hardened rock spiremountain cores we see today. Learn more about this awe-inspiring landscape.
