Holbrook is a rural town of some 1700 people south-west of Sydney. Within driving distance to the Murray River and Dora Dora State Forest, and approximately 500 kilometers south of Sydney and 300 kilometers north of Melbourne, Holbrook provides an ideal break for road trippers exploring the Riverina region.

Holbrook’s most iconic feature is the HMAS Otway, a preserved Oberon-class submarine displayed prominently in the town. It honors Lieutenant Norman Holbrook, a World War I submarine commander and Victoria Cross recipient. The renaming of the town came about during the First World War when the strong anti-German feelings required by law the renaming of the town. The township was renamed Holbrook in honour of Lt. Holbrook who carried out an extraordinary act of bravery against a Turkish Warship.

The town proudly displays a collection of submarines including the B11, of 1914 Dardenelles fame and HMAS Otway, a 90-metre submarine.
