ROC Tours Australia
Cycling the Australian outback – now that’s adventure!
The Australian outback encompasses a large land mass, vast distances, incredible scenery and is not what most people would think of as ‘ideal’ cycling terrain. However each year a greater number of people are discovering the unique experiences provided by Remote Outback Cycle Tours (ROC), as they escape to long dreamed of destinations. The style of travel is as adventurous as personal fitness allows.
From tri-athlete to the novice rider, 16 year olds to veterans, our ROC guides delight in supplying a fully supported itinerary which ensures a unique, hassle free holiday unrivalled in the big, beautiful country.
ROC Tours Australia was established in 1993 and is a local family owned company. Our philosophy has been to step outside the normal idea of a tour. Our focus has been to cater for those people wanting more variety and adventure than what is available on a regular tour.
ROC Tours have been combining mountain biking with outback four wheel driving in order to cater for those adventurers who crave more than just a bus tour. However, non cycling tours are now also available.
There are now ten tour options available from ROC and all are listed in our award winning website: www.cycletours.com.au. Tour destinations include world class attractions such as Uluru (Ayers Rock), The Bungle Bungle National Park, Kakadu National Park, Litchfield National Park, Katherine Gorge, Cable Beach in Broome, Munda Biddi Trail, The Pinnacles, Margaret River and the beautiful beaches of Esperance.
Whether you have just taken up riding or enjoy cycling pursuits on a regular basis, ROC are sure you will be more than happy with ROC’s unique itineraries. We look forward to cycling the outback with you.
Touring Options
RT9 Pinnacles at Sunset
This overnight adventure departs at 1200 (sleep in!) and makes its first stop at Iron Bark brewery and Lilac Hill Estate winery in the beautiful Swan Valley. Driving north, we experience the wide open spaces and bush land (with wildflowers in season) and arrive at the Pinnacles at sunset! There is plenty of time to explore the area, and it’s the best time of the day to photograph these amazing formations (with less crowds). Sunset is also a great time to see some Australian Wildlife, such as kangaroos and emus.
After enjoying dinner at Cervantes, we roll out our swags under the stars! (tents are also available)
Waking early, we enjoy breakfast and then travel down the highway towards the bush for an off-road, four wheel driving experience. We arrive at the sand dunes on the outskirts of the fishing town, Lancelin, for an opportunity to try sand surfing. This is followed by a swim at the beach, then it’s a short drive down the road to Perth returning at approximately 1200.

We then travel from Mundaring to the Perth Observatory to commence cycling along Western Australia’s new long distance off-road cycle track, the Munda Biddi Trail. Munda Biddi means ‘Path Through the Forest’ in the Nyoongar Aboriginal language.
Cycling from camp, we join back on the trail and stop at Gleneagle picnic area for morning tea and a break. Then it is back in the saddle and continue cycling along the trail to the Balmoral Prisoner of War camp, a great place to enjoy a well-deserved lunch break before heading off to the tranquil township of Jarrahdale. Situated 50 kilometres from Perth in the Jarrah forests of the Darling Scarp, there is much to see and do in this forest mining town. There will be time to take a walk around this historical township before enjoying dinner around the campfire. Showers and toilet facilities are available at the Jarrahdale campsite.
Riding from camp, we stop for lunch along the trail to take in the natural Australian bushland. During your adventure, you will encounter wildlife and plants not found anywhere else in the world. Kangaroos, emus, black cockatoos (red tail and white tail), reptiles and wildflowers and more. Continuing along the Munda Biddi trail, we cycling on to Whittaker’s Mill for dinner and camping.
Our last day is spent riding to Turner Hill mountain bike track for morning tea and then pushing on to Oakley Dam for a refreshing, well-deserved swim and lunch. If time permits, we will venture on to Dwellingup, a small settlement situated on top of an escarpment surrounded by a state forest. By now we have cycled approximately 158 km of the Munda Biddi, a world class bush cycle trail. We have experienced majestic forests, rolling hills and amazing flora and fauna. It is time to put the bikes up and join the crew in the support vehicle to travel back to Perth arriving at approximately 4pm.
