Winner of Goldfields Tourism 2003 Hosted Accommodation Award Winner of the Mt Alexander Best Accommodation Award 2002 This beautiful, fully restored heritage home, (1874), set in a cottage garden, offers personal and friendly hospitality in central Castlemaine. Wisteria House, one of the grandest homes of the gold-rush period, has been faithfully restored and remains a proud testament to the craftsmanship of the times. Fourteen foot high ceilings, with detailed friezes, stained glass windows, polished floorboards and antique furniture evoke the best of Victorian grandeur and charm. The driveway is sheltered by a 90 year-old wisteria for which the house was named. We guarantee your comfort with quality antique queen size beds, private lounge rooms, Cottage gardens, gas heating, collectables/book collections. Our gourmet breakfast was placed first of five finalists in the Coast & Country best B&B breakfast competition. Homemade preserves, port and confectionary amongst complimentary extras. Guests have a choice of accommodation-In-house in Eloise Sophia bedroom, the Grace Darling private suite (with private facilities, kitchenette & antique 4 poster brass bed) or in Alice Cottage in the gardens, both with an emphasis on comfort and privacy. Alice cottage has a private entrance, lounge, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and Tuscany style courtyard. Children (and small dogs) are welcome in Alice cottage by arrangement.
