Albion Hotel Motel, Castlemaine
The motel units are part of the Albion Hotel Complex on the Pyrenees highway opposite Wesley Hill Market, 1km from the centre of Castlemaine. The hotel was built in 1858 with, gold found while digging its cellar and has the oldest continuous licence in the area. The hotel sits on the edge of what was the richest alluvial goldfield in the world. The rooms are styled as miners cottages with every modern convenience. You drive in through a central gateway and park in front of your suite. The room is spacious with sliding glass doors opening onto a private verandah overlooking the historic forest creek gold mine. The units, completed in December 2004, feature personalised decor. Each room is provided with tea, coffee, toast, muesli, yoghurt and fruit as part of the tariff. The bar and bistro are only a few metres from the rooms. Our bistro features local produce and we have the biggest range of local wines. Guided walking and wine tours are a specialty.
