Southampton Homestead, Bridgetown
Southampton Homestead (1862) on the banks of the Blackwood River and incorporating part of the Bibbulmun track is one of the oldest and most significant heritage properties in the district. It is conveniently located in the beautiful Balingup/Nannup/Bridgetown ‘golden triangle’.
For an authentic heritage experience, stay in the original kitchen/ bakery which has been restored as luxury self-contained accommodation, or in the delightful guest suite in the original homestead. Both have log fires, clawfoot baths, heated towel rails, antique furnishings, luxury linen and verandahs on which to sit and relax. Perhaps you might like us to drop you off along the Bibbulmun to walk back to the homestead?
Your tariff includes tea, coffee and milk provisions, and a continental breakfast, including hot bread and croissants, homemade jams and preserves, muesli, yoghurt and orange juice which will be delivered to your door at your specified time.
The beautiful gardens and parklands are open during the Festival of Country Gardens and provide a peaceful, private and tranquil setting. Heritage roses, deciduous and fruit trees, a productive vegetable garden, again, mostly using ‘heritage’ varieties are flourishing, and you are encouraged to pick vegetables in season during your stay.
A cottage garden including hollyhocks, foxgloves, delphiniums, larkspur, poppies, evening primrose, lavenders, pentstemon and many English lilacs, violas, pansies, day lilies, etcetera are flourishing. There is a beautiful display of bulbs in winter and early spring including many different tulips, jonquils, daffodils, bluebells, ixias, grape hyacinth and iris.
Guests will be delighted at the amount and type of wildlife that visit the property. There is a wide variety of birdlife, including water birds on the river, blue wrens, red- breasted and white-breasted robins, huge flocks of white-tailed black cockatoos, and occasionally, a small flock of red-tailed cockatoos. Emus and kangaroos are also frequent visitors.
