Winton Outback Motel, Winton

Settle into the Winton Outback Motel and experience true country hospitality in comfort and affordability. It is within walking distance to all the local attractions including the Matilda Centre, Royal Theatre and the historic Corfield and Fitzmaurice Store. Why not extend your stay, pack your lunch, (or they can arrange one for you) and head off to Lark Quarry. Lark Quarry is famous for the worlds’ only known fossilised Dinosaur stampede; they are housed in a climatised building to preserve them. You could also try your luck at opal fossicking at Opalton, population 15, last count. Who knows you might strike the big one!

After your adventurous day out, you will no doubt feel like a cold drink and a hearty meal. Winton has some of the best pubs in Outback Queensland and all cater for the hungry traveller with excellent counter lunches and dinners, at reasonable prices. The North Gregory Hotel can even boast that Waltzing Matilda was first performed there. The friendly locals are always ready to have a chat and share some bush stories with you. If you’re a fisherman they might even tell you where the fish are biting.

You might prefer to come back to the motel, throw a steak on the barbecue, choose a video to watch in the comfort of your room and rest up for your next big day in this great little town. After a delicious breakfast delivered to your room, you will be set to head out again. You’ve still got to see Arno’s wall, which even includes the kitchen sink, the musical fence, Searles, and if you didn’t find an opal, you can always buy one at the Sunset Opal Factory.

Your hosts Deborah and Max Yesberg hope to see you soon.
