Poets Recall Motel, Gundagai
The motel was designed around the Old Railway Hotel and the great flood
of 1852.
The Old Hotel, now the restaurant and bar was built in 1875 and served the
thirsty gold miners till it closed in 1924.
Australia’s forgotten disaster “The Gundagai Flood” claimed twice as many
lives as Darwin’s cyclone Tracy, and Old Gundagai whose streets were named
after poets, (Shakespeare, Sheridan etc), was almost completely washed away.
