Simpson Desert Eleven Day Tour – TSS02

Marvel at the spectacular Outback of South Australia, South East Queensland and the Northern Territory, as we take an eleven day four wheel drive vehicle trek, staying at some of the outback’s most famous towns.

. Day One – Depart Broken Hill and travel to Tibooburra. Along the way visit Depot Glen, made famous during Sturt’s travels. After a look around Tibooburra we continue on to Cameron Corner, where three states meet. Dinner at Cameron Corner. Overnight cabin accommodation. Includes lunch and dinner.

. Day Two – Follow in the footsteps on Captain Starlight as we travel along the Strzelecki Track to Innamincka, arriving around lunch time. After settling into our rooms we visit the Dig Tree made famous by the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition. Dinner at the pub. Overnight accommodation in Innamincka. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Three – Travelling either via Cordillo Downs or Walkers Crossing we head to Birdsville to prepare for our desert crossing. Visits to the Diamantina River and the famous pub are highlights. Dinner at the Caravanserai Cafe. Overnight accommodation in motel style cabins. Includes breafast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Four – We start the day with a tour of the remarkable Working Museum, the rest of the day is free to relax, read a book or just wonder around town. Overnight accommodation in motel style cabins. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Five – Leaving Birdsville we travel west to start our desert crossing by first conquering Big Red, the highest of more than 1100 sand dunes on our crossing. Along the way we stop at Poeppels Corner, for the junction of Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Tonight is our first night camping out with a delightful campfire cooked dinner. Overnight camping accommodation. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Six – Another day of excitement as we continue in our quest to traverse the Simpson. Another delightful overnight camp about midway across. Overnight camping accommodation. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Seven – Today we head further west to make camp at Purni Bore. After establishing camp, enjoy a hot shower then explore this oasis in the desert. As night falls hear and maybe see the many dingoes, wild camels and donkeys in the area. Overnight camping accommodation. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Eight – A highlight of today is a swim in the warm pools at Dalhousie Springs, then on to Mount Dare homestead for dinner and accommodation. Overnight accommodation at Mount Dare homestead. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Nine – An early start as we have a big day. We travel the Oodnadatta Track, visiting Algebuckina, William Creek Hotel then on to Marree. Overnight cabin accommodation. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Ten – From Marree we visit the Lyndhurst Ochre pits and Talc Alf as we head south through the Flinders Ranges. Our destination is one of the largest working sheep stations in the Flinders. Dinner with the station owners. Overnight accommodation in historic stone shearers quarters. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Eleven – A highly recommended option to start the day is an early morning scenic flight over Wilpena Pound, (at own cost). Then we travel through the southern Flinders to Hawker then Orroroo, for lunch at Maggie’s Rendezvous. Then continue to Broken Hill to end our trip. Includes breakfast and lunch.

Flinders Ranges Four Day Tour – TSS01

With a small personalised group, tour the Flinders Ranges by four wheel drive vehicle taking in the spectacular scenery and sampling the good old fashion country hospitality.

. Day One – At 0830 approximately you will be picked up from your accommodation or railway station. The day’s travel takes in both arid and rugged scenery. Lunch at Waukeringa Ruins Historic Site before arriving at our destination on one of the largest, 1700 square kilometres working sheep stations in the Flinders Ranges. Accommodation is in comfortable historic stone shearers quarters, circa 1860. While staying here take a walk through the shearing shed, feed the horses, or just take a quiet moment to spot the birds and kangaroos. After dinner experience the wonder of an outback night sky. Includes lunch and dinner.

. Day Two – Today we travel to Wilpena Pound for a bushwalk into the Pound and enjoy a picnic lunch. The afternoon is spent exploring the deep gorges and magnificent waterholes of Brachina and Bunyeroo. After a drive past the Great Wall of China followed by a refreshing stop at Blinman Hotel before we head back to our sheep station. While staying in the shearer’s quarters we have the opportunity to talk to the owners of this magnificent property and learn about the five generations of the family who have lived there. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Three – More exploring of the area today, this time plenty of four wheel driving through Chambers Gorge, a magnificent deep canyon eroded into the ancient ranges. A short walk enables us to see Aboriginal rock engravings that are thousands of years old, made by the Adnyamathanha people. In the afternoon, more adventure exploring the remote and spectacular areas of the Grindstone Ranges, which are all located on our property. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Four – Departing our property we head past Rawnsley Bluff and then follow the southern Flinders Ranges to Hawker and other classic towns in the lower Flinders, stopping to look at points of interest along the way. Lunch is at the award winning Maggies Rendezvous in Orroroo before returning to Broken Hill late afternoon. Includes breakfast and lunch.

Burke and Wills Eleven Day Tour – TSS03

Get a taste of early pioneer history, with a visit to the famous Dig Tree of the explorers Burke and Wills. Along the way soak up the atmosphere and put yourself in the shoes of these early explorers. View the desolate terrain of the South Australian outback.

. Day One – Depart Broken Hill and head through outback South Australia to our base for the next three nights on one of the largest and oldest established working sheep stations in the Flinders Ranges. Accommodation is in historic stone shearers quarters, circa 1860. We travel 430 kilometres. Includes lunch and dinner.

. Day Two – A day exploring the Flinders. Bush walks in Wilpena Pound, followed by a drive through the amazing Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges. We travel 200 kilometres. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Three – Today we travel a short distance to Chambers Gorge, to see Aboriginal rock engravings dating back perhaps ten thousand years. Then experience exciting four wheel driving to either the hidden Rainbow Valley or Lizard Rock all found in the rugged ranges on our property. We travel 100 kilometres. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Four – Travelling through Blinman to Leigh Creek to re-stock supplies. Lunch at the award winning Copley Quandong Bakery. Also see the coalfields and Ochre pits before continuing along the Oodnadatta Track to Marree. Accommodation in either cabins or hotel room. We travel 245 kilometres. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Five – From Marree we head along the infamous Birdsville Track to Birdsville. A full day’s journey, but full of adventure and wonderful sights, includes stops at a hot water overflow and the old Cooper Creek punt. Overnight in cabins. Dinner at the Birdsville Hotel. We travel 530 kilometres. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Six – After a visit to the Working Museum you have a free day to wander around. We re-group late afternoon for a trip out to Big Red, the highest sand dune in the Simpson Desert, before returning for a barbecue dinner. Overnight accommodation in cabins. We travel 100 kilometres. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Seven – From Birdsville we travel via the heritage listed Cordillo Downs woolshed to Innamincka. Three nights accommodation in either cabins or hotel rooms. We travel 320 kilometres. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Eight – Today is a chance to see places made famous by the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition. We visit the Dig Tree, Burke’s memorial, Wills and Kings markers and more. We travel 160 kilometres. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Nine – Coongie Lakes is an oasis in the desert, home to a variety of birdlife, and is today’s destination. Maybe even time to try your luck catching a fish. We travel 250 kilometres. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Ten – Leaving Innamincka we follow the original Strzelecki Track, made famous by Captain Starlight, to Bollards Lagoon for accommodation in shearer’s quarters. We travel 235 kilometres. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

. Day Eleven – Travel on to Cameron Corner, where three states meet. After crossing through the Dingo Fence we travel through Sturt National Park to Tibooburra for a look around this old gold mining area. Detour to Milparinka and Depot Glen where in 1845 Sturt’s party made an enforced camp for six months. Return to Broken Hill late afternoon for trips end. We travel 460 kilometres. Includes breakfast and lunch.
