Old Milburn Schoolhouse B&B, Woodstock

Once the Milburn Creek Public School and schoolmaster’s residence, established in 1877, the house has undergone successive additions and renovations. Its major restructure in the 1920’s saw the school and residence transformed into a gracious, comfortable family home occupied by the Hailstone family until 1985.

In 2003 John and Lorraine Spear bought the house on its 27 hectares after the large sheep property, of which it was part, had been sold.

John and Lorraine would be pleased to welcome you to enjoy their hospitality, specialising in regional produce in season. The breakfast menu includes such delights as scrambled free range eggs with Cowra smoked trout; local white peaches poached in rosewater syrup; fresh asparagus with poached eggs and triffle oil; and of course, a full country style breakfast. All preserves, breads and sauces are home made as are the delicious baked beans (ask John for the recipe!).

The home features two guest bedrooms with private bathroom facilities for each bedroom and a safe for valuables. Reverse cycle air conditioning, wood fires, guests’ lounge and dining room, TV/VCR and Internet access available.

Dinner can be provided by arrangement.

We are offering a special Yulefest package on weekends in July, with pre-dinner wine tasting and a festive meal.

The property features White and Yellow Box woodland suitable for birdwatching and walks.

Old Milburn Schoolhouse B&B is 12km from Wyangala Waters State park for boating, fishing, water skiing, walking and exploring, 13km from Wyangala Country Club and golf course, 14km from Darby’s Falls Observatory and 15 minutes from Woodstock village.

The B&B is only 25 minutes from Cowra and its attractions which include restaurants, the Japanese Garden, Australia’s World Peace Bell, the site of the WWII P.O.W. Camp (site of the Cowra Breakout), sporting facilities, galleries, museums, clubs and much more.

It is conveniently located for visiting the region’s many cellar doors and wineries and within a comfortable drive for exploring the historic towns of Millthorpe and Carcoar, and only 40 minutes from Canowindra, known for its wineries, hot air ballooning, Age of Fishes Museum and art galleries.

Glasshouse Mountains

The Glasshouse Mountains in the hinterland of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast are actually the cores of 20 million year old volcanoes. The sides of the volcanoes have eroded away leaving only the hardened rock spiremountain cores we see today. Learn more about this awe-inspiring landscape.
