Old Hamilton Downs Homestead, The, Tanami
The Old Hamilton Downs Homestead is one and a half hours drive from Alice Springs, and is one of the few old cattle station homesteads left in the Territory. The homestead was abandoned in 1950 with the present working homestead now located further west. The old homestead is now heritage-listed and was refurbished for the youth of Alice Springs, and travellers can now stay at this unique and distinctive homestead and experience the Territory’s pioneering history. Accommodation is available at the homestead, which is self catering and has a fully equipped kitchen. Or you may choose to stay at the bunkhouse, or camp under the stars.
Explore the surrounding bush landscape and discover the old meathouse, of the best preserved of its type in the NT. Old Hamilton Downs Homestead is ideal for families and school groups, and a resident manager is on site at all times.
