Fowlers Gap New South Wales Australia

Fowlers Gap is the University of New South Wales’ arid zone research station in the far north-west of NSW. The Station’s mission is to create and diffuse knowledge about the function of arid zone landscapes and their plants and animals in a pastoral context. This mission is pursued with research, teaching, interpretation and public education through eco-tourism.

The Station provides comfortable facilities in which to gain knowledge about the natural heritage of Outback NSW. We create a unique learning experience through ‘Wildlife Weekends’ passing on research about the behaviour and adaptations of animals and plants; bush-walking along one of five eco-trails interpreting the geomorphology, fauna and flora of the arid landscape; or bird-watching and other wildlife viewing at one of two hides on water bodies. The landscape is varied with lowlands, the northern Barrier Ranges and plains dissected by Fowlers Creek.

Visitors are accommodated in a self-contained 4-bedroom cottage or larger groups can be catered for in our 8 bedroom twin-share shearers’ quarters. Bookings are essential due to our research and teaching commitments.
