Echoes Country House, The, Kyabram

Back in the 1860’s Samuel Hunt selected 300 acres on the Tongala Run near the township of Henley. He named his property St Hubert’s and erected the log cabin – his first dwelling. Over the years sheep and wheat prospered and by 1903 the holding had increased considerably and samuel’s son, William commissioned an architect to build a grand Federation homestead with all the trimmings – leadlights, high ceilings, fretwork, open fires and all round verandas. The Echoes was born and was so named because of the echoing of the horses’ hooves clip clopping along the driveway. The sheep and wheat are long gone, as is the township of Henley but the grandeur of The Echoes lives on. In the words of a local historian The Echoes is “reminiscent of an age when time was more plentiful and the graces of life more widely cultivated”. Now you can enjoy both the comforts of the present day and the grandeur of the past. If you want relaxation you can wile away the hours on the veranda watching the flowers grow or listen to music in the guest sitting room. How about a stroll around the garden or a game of croquet to whet your appetite for dinner? If you’re looking for something a bit more energetic you could take a short drive to the historic port of Echuca, explore the gold diggings in the Whroo forest, stroll around Kyabram’s fauna park or take a look at the orchards of Victoria’s fruit bowl. At the end of the day a tranquil night’s sleep awaits you in an antique brass bed. Breakfast and dinner at The Echoes are served in the grand style and feature local produce wherever possible – William would approve.
