The small wheatbelt town of Wickepin lies two and a half hours’ drive southeast of Perth.

The well known Australian author Albert Facey lived in Wickepin and many of his stories are about the area. His house has been moved to the centre of the town as a tourist attraction. The homestead was built in 1924 and has been fully restored. It includes a wash house, outside toilet and garden.

The Albert Facey Trail brings to life the story of his famous book ‘A Fortunate Life’ and makes a pleasant half day drive. Don’t miss the historic photographic collection at the general store.

The small town of Yealering, 31 kilometres east of Wickepin, is situated on the banks of the beautiful Lake Yealering. The lake supports an abundance of waterfowl and is popular in summer with locals and tourists for recreation sports. Toolibin Lake is one of the last remaining freshwater wetlands in the south west of Australia. Enjoy the walk trails, barbecue facilities and huge variety of birdlife at this unique site. Harrismith boasts a wonderful wildflower walk trail near the town site.

Spring wildflowers are abundant in every bush reserve in the Wickepin area.
