Hat Head is a village of a few hundred people on the coast 30 minutes north-east of Kempsey, entirely surrounded by Hat Head National Park. The hat-shaped headland that gives it its name rises beside the village.

Things To Do in Hat Head

Korogoro Creek runs clear and green beside the village, and on a rising tide people drift along it with a snorkel. A footbridge crosses to the headland, where the Korogoro walking track makes a circuit of about three kilometres with cliff-top views, a sea cave and whales in season.

The beach runs north for 15 kilometres to Smoky Cape. Rock and beach fishing here are among the best on the coast.

Where To Stay

The holiday park on the creek takes up much of the village, and there are holiday houses. The national park has campgrounds at Hungry Gate, to the south, and Smoky Cape.

Eat & Drink

There is a general store with takeaway and a bowling club. Bring supplies from Kempsey.

Getting to Hat Head

From Kempsey follow the signs through Gladstone and Kinchela to Hat Head, about 30 minutes.
