Guide to Haden Queensland Australia

Haden is a village of a couple of hundred people about 50 kilometres north of Toowoomba, between Goombungee and the New England Highway. It sits on a ridge of red volcanic soil at around 600 metres, among dairy, beef and grain farms. There is little here beyond a hotel, a hall and a school, but the surrounding scenery makes the detour worthwhile.

Things To Do in Haden

Enjoy the drive

The roads to Haden follow the ridgelines, with views west over the Downs and north to the Bunya Mountains. The red soil, green pasture and tall silky oaks are especially attractive after rain.

Crows Nest, with its national park and waterfalls, is 20 minutes east.

History

Haden was settled in the 1880s by selectors, many of them from Germany and Denmark, who cleared the scrub for dairy farms. A branch railway from Kingsthorpe ended here from 1910 until the 1960s.
