Experiences in Western Australia
The biggest state in the country, Western Australia is also the most remote, with great swathes of isolated Outback and very few people outside of its laidback capital Perth. The biggest city in the west of the country features the meandering Swan River and an exquisite sandy coastline that begs to be explored. There are also plenty of fun experiences in Western Australia to enjoy.
It’s little wonder that Perth regularly features in the top 10 most livable cities on the planet. Sophisticated and modern, it is also home to huge expanses of green, notably Kings Park with its superb views of the city centre and the river. Fremantle is a hub of history and culture on the edge of the city featuring old-style houses, great bars and restaurants. It also has one of the most popular beaches in the city, making it a hotspot for tourists.
On the sublime Rottnest Island, a short ferry ride away, the absence of cars, the beautiful untouched bays and the distinct indigenous mammals called quokkas give it a unique charm. But for the quintessential Western Australian experience, take a trip to one of the famous wine growing areas outside of Perth, notably Margaret River and the Swan Valley, both of which are also home to other treats, such as cheese and chocolate factories.
Broome in the far north of the state is also a popular destination with locals but remains largely undiscovered by foreign tourists, despite the superb beaches on the Indian Ocean. This is also the centre of a pearl industry, which has long since died out. The camels on Cable Beach are still available for rides however, another not-to-be-missed Western Australian experience.
