Hunt’s Folly provides self contained accommodation for up to 4 people with queen and twin bedrooms tastefully furnished with quality linen and electric blankets. It is ideal for couples or families. Dunolly is ideally situated 45 minutes from Bendigo and Castlemaine and 20 minutes from Maryborough. The town, which at the height of the goldrush accommodated up to 35,000 diggers, is now home to around 650 people. Dunolly contains many magnificent historic buildings located along Broadway and dotted throughout the town, including Hunt’s Folly, one of the first brick buildings constructed in the town in 1862. The cottage was the home of Charles Dicker, town clerk, photographer and prominent local identity, before becoming the mining surveyor’s office and residence in the 1880’s. Dunolly is located within the unique box ironbark forests of Central Victoria, which can be explored by a network of bicycle and walking tracks (maps supplied). Of course gold prospecting remains an attraction of the area with advice and equipment hire available in the town. Alternatively, visit the Goldfields Museum or explore the sites of the old diggings which are essentially as the diggers left them 150 years ago.
