Longreach Lookabout
See the clear blue skies, golden sunsets, friendly warmth of the western people, surprising landscapes and the rich heritage of the outback.
The tour begins with a visit to the Qantas Founders Outback Museum (stage two opened Easter 2002) to see where this National Airline grew up.
Visit the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, a living memorial to the pioneers who braved this vast untamed land.
Enjoy a full lunch in the newly reopened Longreach Club.
And conclude the day with a delightful Billabong Sunset and Stars Dinner Cruise on the Thomson Belle Paddlewheeler.
Winton Matilda Country Tour
Travel to the home of Waltzing Matilda visiting the North Gregory Hotel, site of the first public performance of the national song.
Continuing on to tour the Opal Walk, Royal Open Air Theatre, the historic Corfield and Fitzmaurice General Store housing Combo Crafts and Dinosaur Diorama (Lark Quarry stampede replica) and the Waltzing Matilda Centre dedicated to the national song written by Banjo Paterson.
Before returning to Longreach drive to the top of the Rift Valley’s of Rangelands Station for one of the best panorama’s the outback has to offer.
Barcaldine, Garden City of the West 2006
Departing Longreach to travel the Matilda Highway to Barcaldine the ‘Garden City’ of the Outback. Learn about the Tree of Knowledge, the ‘Garden City’ and visit the award winning Australian Workers Heritage Centre with lunch in the garden surrounds. Longreach Outback Travel Centre will drop in to the famous Wellshot Hotel in Ilfracombe the ‘Hub of the West’ for dinner before returning to your accommodation in Longreach.
Great Western Adventure
The first day of the tour travels to Barcaldine and the "Tree of Knowledge" before having a look at the Australian Worker Heritage Centre.
Today consists of visiting the Opal Walk, Royal Open Air Theatre, the Corfield and Fitzmaurice Building and the Waltzing Matilda Centre.
The tour continues with a visit to the Qantas Founders Museum and a tour of the 747, a tour through the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and cap the day of with a cruise on the Thompson Belle.
The final day consists of visiting the Longreach School of Distance Education and the Longreach Pastoral College.
Billabong Boat Cruise
Join Longreach Outback Travel employees on the west’s only Paddle Wheeler the ‘Thomson Belle’ on the Thomson River for a night you’ll never forget, informative commentary and the spectacular views of an outback sunset.
Enjoy a two course drovers style meal at the ‘Sheraton on the Thomson’ the restaurant under the stars. Be entertained by a country music singer Bush Poet around the blazing campfire with a good dash of outback humour.
Cap the night off with a cup of genuine Billy Tea, some fresh damper and a chance to see the carpet of stars above in the outback sky.
Longreach, Future Learning 2006
This morning 8.30 a.m. visit the seat of learning in the Outback, the Longreach School of Distance Education followed by a light morning tea in the garden at the Pastoral College. The guide will then take you for a tour through this institution that prepares young people for a life on the land. This afternoon after lunch the coach will drop you off at the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame or the Qantas Founders Museum.
