Flinders Ranges and Beyond Expedition – BPJ01

From the Spencer Gulf to the Strzelecki Desert, via the Barossa Valley, this tour showcases the rare beauty of the Flinders Ranges and the diverse landscapes of South Australia.

. Experience underground life at the mining town of Coober Pedy.
. Low aerial flightseeing over Lake Eyre and the ‘Marree Man’.

. Day One – Adelaide – Arrive into Adelaide and transfer to the hotel. Overnight accommodation at the Hyatt Regency Adelaide or similar.

. Day Two – Streaky Bay – This morning board a private aircraft for a spectacular flight across the southern coastline to the coastal township of Streaky Bay. Considered one of the most pristine untouched coastlines in the world, this area is a haven for marine life. Cruise from Baird Bay to Jones Island to view a large colony of sea lions and bottle nosed dolphins that inhabit these protected waters. What this area lacks in stylish facilities it makes up for in extraordinary experiences. Overnight accommodation at Streaky Bay Community Hotel Motel.

Day Three – Streaky Bay to Coober Pedy – Journey by road to enjoy the coastal vista if this region, including the opportunity to view the majestic sea eagles’ nesting ground along the cliff faces and the rugged coastline of Cape Bauer. After reboarding the private aircraft, you fly inland to the vast barren plains of Coober Pedy. This renowned opal producing town has the unique characteristic of underground living, including the opportunity to stay overnight in the boutique Desert Cave. Overnight accommodation at the Desert Cave Hotel.

Day Four – Flightseeing – Lake Eyre – Explore this colourful frontier township and learn of its interesting origins and lifestyle where most of the locals have built their homes underground to escape the scorching summer temperatures. Be guided by a miner through a working opal mine in Coober Pedy. To be able to truly appreciate the unique landscape of this region, board a small charter planes for spectacular aerial sightseeing of Coober Pedy and the majesty of Lake Eyre. The private aircraft awaits for another remarkable flight over Muloorina Station concluding at Arkaroola, a private 610 square kilometre wilderness sanctuary. Overnight accommodation at the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary and Resort.

. Day Five – Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary – Arkaroola is one of Australia’s most spectacular areas. Rich in history, the area features rugged mountains, towering granite peaks, magnificent gorges and waterholes and is home to more than 160 species of birds. Journey by four wheel drive vehicle to the ridgetop area to view the rugged landscape that has been carved over countless years and is home to a unique collection of flora and fauna. The afternoon is free to explore the remarkable diversity of this wilderness or simply relax in the comfort of the resort. Overnight accommodation at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary and Resort.

. Day Six – Flinders Ranges – The journey continues by dirt road from the wilderness of Arkaroola to the majesty of the Flinders Ranges. Dine at the famous Prairie Hotel, Parachilna – location for many famous movies, including Gallipoli, The Lighthorseman and Rabbit Proof Fence. Overnight accommodation at the Prairie Hotel.

. Day Seven – Wilpena Pound – Board a privately chartered aircraft this morning for breathtaking views of Wilpena Pound. With its rugged red peaks towering towards the skyline, peaceful tree lined gorges and range of wildlife and flora, Wilpena Pound is the centrepiece of the magnificent national park. View the spectacular Elder Range and Moralana Valley and learn about the fascinating European history of the area. Overnight accommodation at the Prairie Hotel.

. Day Eight – Vineyards of the Barossa Valley – The journey today takes you from the rugged ranges of the Flinders to the fine wines of the Barossa Valley. On route pass through the interesting small townships of Orroroo and Peterborough, each with its own unique history and country charm. Enjoy lunch at Burra, one of the best preserved heritage towns in South Australia. Arrive at the luxurious Peppers Hermitage, Barossa Valley. Overnight accommodation at Peppers Hermitage.

. Day Nine – Barossa Valley. Today is spent enjoying some of the private boutique wineries of the Barossa and listen to the passionate wine makers talk about the flavours and aromas that make their wines award winners. The journey concludes late afternoon in Adelaide. Overnight accommodation at Hyatt Regency Hotel or similar.

. Day Ten – The Farewell – Enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning before you transfer to the airport.
