Magela Cultural and Heritage Tours
Magela Cultural and Heritage Tours offer the visitor a very personal and culturally rich guided tour, unlike any other experience in Kakadu National Park.
Magela Cultural and Heritage Tours is the only Aboriginal owned tour operating in Kakadu National Park and its surrounding areas. Departing Jabiru each day of the week, you will be returned to your accommodation in time to connect with travel arrangements departing Jabiru. The touring vehicles are air conditioned four wheel drives which have been specially designed and constructed for your comfort and is well appointed with forward facing seats.
After departing Jabiru, you travel north on the Oenpelli Road enjoying the spectacular scenery into high and rugged escarpment country, Eucalypt woodland and the magnificent and serene Magela wetlands. You then leave the bitumen road and cross over the floodway on the famous East Alligator River (which forms the border of Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land) and enter the mystical Arnhem Land. This land is owned exclusively by the Aboriginal people and restricted entry is allowed only on the issue of a permit by them.
Visit waterlilly-fringed billabongs, art sites, towering escarpments and vast flood plains. Enjoy a boat cruise before an unhurried four wheel drive journey to the traditional homelands of the Bunidj people at Cannon Hill. Throughout the day, you will be given an insight into the life of contemporary Aboriginal people, their foods, medicines, rock art and you will learn the significance of their cultural heritage through their strong ties to the land.
