Crystal Hill Sanctuary Hostel Accommodation, Norton Summit

Crystal Hill Sanctuary is a haven to many species of animals and brilliantly coloured birds. The morning and evening bird-song will entrance you. Set on 17 hectares next to the spectacular Morialta Conservation Park in the Adelaide Hills, Crystal Hills Sanctuary is only 15 kilometres from the city, yet is surrounded by bushland, forest walks, waterfalls and wildlife. The land is being restored as closely as possible to the natural habitat of the Mount Lofty Ranges. The Sanctuary is dedicated to permaculture principles, which guide the restoration.

There are two ways to stay. You can bring your willing hands and join in all the restorative projects including building, land management projects and care of native fauna. This way, you are a helper with an emphasis on learning, not a worker. Or stay as a hosteller, soak up the natural surroundings and visit all the nearby popular tourist attractions. The cottage accommodation is like home rather than a hostel with wide beds and fresh sheets and fully equipped kitchen. There’s lots of yummy organic food from the gardens. You can cook for yourself or eat with us. Visitors complain that the food is so good they get fat.

Glasshouse Mountains

The Glasshouse Mountains in the hinterland of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast are actually the cores of 20 million year old volcanoes. The sides of the volcanoes have eroded away leaving only the hardened rock spiremountain cores we see today. Learn more about this awe-inspiring landscape.
