Lyndoch, surrounded by golden wheat crops, was the site of the first flour mill north of Adelaide and today is a great spot to grab traditional breads from the local bakery and picnic on the village green.

Here, you can follow the heritage walk or visit the historical society’s display, do some tasting at local wineries or wander through the glorious rose garden at nearby Chateau Barrosa.

Visit Lyndoch Lavender Farm, with its spectacular views of more than 80 lavender varieties and lavender food tastings.

Settled in 1839, Lyndoch is one of the oldest settlements in South Australia. Colonel Light spelt Barossa with two r’s Barrossa and Lyndoch was spelt Lynedoch. The hills reminded Colonel Light of the ‘Barrossa’ area in Spain and the valley were Lyndoch now stands he named after Lord Lynedoch who fought with him in the Peninsular War in Spain in 1812.

The area contains the Warren Reservoir, the South Para Reservoir, the Barossa Reservoir and a large acreage of government pine forests together with a large proportion of the vines grown throughout the Valley.
