Macka’s Barra Camp

Macka’s Barra Camp conducts fully guided barramundi fishing tours including full day trips and customised overnight stays. Macka’s Barra Camp offers you a day on the water which includes some of the best barramundi fishing Northern Australia has to offer.

Our trained guides are able to cater for you whatever your skill or experience level, from the non-fisher right through to expert fly and lure casters. On any day trip or overnight fishing tour you will be taken into the tidal reached of the lower Ord River to maximise your barramundi fishing opportunities.

Tours are all inclusive including collection from your accommodation, transport to and from the camp, lunch, morning and afternoon tea, soft drinks, water, fishing equipment and guiding. Our modern, custom built boats offer you plenty of room, shade canopies, swivel seating and seat a maximum of four people.

Between the months of February and May Macka’s Barra Camp conducts overnight Wet Season run-off tours. These trips offer your group of between two and 12 people a fully customised and totally personalised charter for three days onwards.

Macka’s Barra Camp prides itself on its quality product and total professionalism. We have no fuel limitations and do not charge for any lost or damaged tackle.

Our extremely comfortable bush camp is located on the banks of the lower Ord River approximately 55 kilometres from Kununurra on Carlton Hill Station. Sitting high on a picturesque bend of the river with sweeping downstream views, the camp is fully powered with plenty of overhead fans, lights, flushing toilets, hot water and bungalow style accommodation.

Touring Options

Ord River tour

After being collected from your accommodation in Kununurra, you will be taken on a 50 minute drive through the Ord irrigation area and down onto Carlton Hill Station to Macka’s Barra Camp.

Tea and coffee is served prior to boarding the boats with full amenities available at the camp. A full day is then spent fishing the Lower Ord River tidal reaches travelling up to 100kms on the water to fish for that big barra! Enjoy a variety of fishing options and be amazed by the diverse bird and wildlife with something new around every corner. Experience a scenic tour like no other!

Half Day Barra Tour

This is the ideal tour for those on a budget, short on time or who just want to experience barra fishing. Fish in comfort from our purpose built vessels at any one of the various locations close to town.

Choose from either a morning or afternoon tour, fully guided and with everything supplied.

Available May to September.

We provide pick up and return from your Kununurra accommodation at the following times:

Morning tour – 0600 pickup, 1100 return
Afternoon tour – 1230 pickup, 1700 return This is the ideal tour for those on a budget, short on time or who just want to experience barra fishing. Fish in comfort from our purpose built vessels at any one of the various locations close to town.

All fishing equipment, morning and afternoon tea, water and softdrinks provided. All tours are fully guided.

Fossil Island tour

Treat yourself to this once- in-a lifetime fishing adventure! Travel to the mouth of the mighty Ord River where it meets the spectacular rugged expanse of the Cambridge Gulf. Cover up to 250 kilometres on the water and enjoy the tranquility and isolation of this rarely fished unspoilt region.

This tour seeks out big barra and other estuarine species including Threadfin Salmon, Mulloway and Fingermark. Spending your day venturing downstream fishing coastal creeks and the Fossil Islands flats adjacent to the mouth. Marvel at the unforgettable and ever-changing Kimberley scenery and the vast array of bird life.

Wet Season / Overnight Tours

Staying overnight at Macka’s whether it be for one night or several, gives you the opportunity to let the majestic scenery of the area seep in. Located high on a picturesque bend of the river with sweeping vistas downstream, the camp is superbly comfortable – boasting 240 volt power, flushing toilets, hot water, fridges, freezers, coolroom, ice machine, dishwasher, washing machine, full sized beds, overhead fans throughout recently refurbished bungalows and open air dining with in house cook.

During the months February to May, Macka conducts his wet season run-off tours. These are fully customised and totally personalised charters for groups of between two and twelve anglers.

These prices are all inclusive – transfers to and from the camp from Kununurra, all meals, accommodation, fishing equipment and guiding.
Flights to and from Kununurra and alcohol are not included.

Booking conditions: All overnight tours require a deposit of the cost of one day to confirm the booking. Balance can either be paid prior to or on arrival at Macka’s Barra Camp.
Please note: Due to the high running costs and wet season logistics, no monies will be refunded on cancellation of a booking unless the dates are filled by other clients.
