Hobart Historic Tours
Hobart is Australia’s second oldest city and remains the country’s best example of an Australian colonial town. Hobart Historic Walks offers you the chance to explore the city on a number of guided tours.
Hobart Historic Walk: A guided two-hour wander through the streets that tell the story of early Hobart Town. Tales of colourful convict characters – such as Ikey Solomon, the celebrated pickpocket on whom Charles Dickens modelled Fagin; political despots such as Lt Governor George Arthur who designed Port Arthur prison; along with the whalers, sailors and female convicts who did what they could to survive in those brutal times.
Hobart Historic Pub Tour: Within two decades of settlement Hobart Town boasted more than 50 pubs to quench the thirst of its 10,000 inhabitants. Many of these pubs still stand today, including the oldest continuously licensed pub in Australia. This is a pub-crawl with attitude and fun.
Breakfast Walk: If you need an extra incentive to do your morning exercise, then join the breakfast walk that takes you around the waterfront and into the first village of Hobart Town – Battery Point. For one hour you explore the narrow winding streets passing beautifully restored mansions, the homes of the colony’s early merchants, and tiny fishermen cottages.
Tours are offered in various languages (on request) with a minimum of three people.
Book at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre, 20 Davey Street (cnr of Elizabeth Street), Hobart.
