Flinders Ranges, Wilpena Pound Two Day Tour – AOA006

Flinders Ranges National Park discovery tour, an introduction to the Flinders Ranges, highlights include the picturesque Moralana scenic drive, awesome Wilpena Pound, beautiful Bunyeroo Valley and Gorge, spectacular Brachina Gorge, Old Kanyaka Homestead ruins as well as the historic Ghan towns of Quorn and Hawker.

. Day One – Pick up from hotel in the Adelaide central business district at 0730 and travel 400 kilometres north to the historic townships of Quorn and Hawker, the hub of the Flinder Ranges and the gateway to the outback. Visit Old Kanyaka Ruins, once home to 70 people, sad testimony to this harsh country, abandoned circa 1867 due to a three year drought. Travel through the beautiful Moralana scenic drive and view the picturesque Arkaba Hills. Take in the view of Wilpena Pound and the Chace Range from Pugilist Hill Lookout before booking into accommodation at Wilpena or Rawnsley Park depending on availability of accommodation.

. Day Two – Early breakfast with time available for you to take an optional scenic flight around this spectacular, ancient geological formation called Wilpena Pound. Explore the famous gorges of the Flinders Ranges, Bunyeroo Valley and Gorge, Flinders Ranges National Park and Brachina Gorge, a geological journey through 640 million years before returning to Adelaide via Hawker and Quorn. Lunch at Hawker before continuing on through the quality wine producing Clare Valley. Stop to sample some local produce, arrive in Adelaide at approximately 1800 to 1830.

Coober Pedy, Lake Eyre, Wilpena Pound and Flinders Ranges Four Day Tour – AOA008W

Travel in the comfort of a modern, specially equipped air-conditioned four wheel drive station wagon, registered chauffeured vehicle. Follow in the footsteps of the famous explorer John Mc Douall Stuart, the Overland Telegraph line and the old Ghan railway. Visit the true outback, see some of the harshest country in Australia, realise the hardship of people building the Ghan railway and the Overland Telegraph line.

. Day One – Tour departs Adelaide at 0630 for Coober Pedy travelling via Port Augusta and Woomera (brief visit to Heritage Park in Woomera). Arrive Coober Pedy at approximately 1730. Tour around Coober Pedy on arrival including The Breakaways, Dingo Fence, Moon Plain and Oodnadatta Road. Overnight accommodation at Coober Pedy.

. Day Two – At 0800 depart for William Creek via Anna Creek Station , the largest cattle station in the world. Take an optional one-hour scenic flight over Lake Eyre on arrival. Four wheel drive trek to Halligan Bay at Lake Eyre (five hours and 134 kilometres return trip). Overnight at William Creek.

. Day Three – Depart William Creek at approximately 0800 for Wilpena Pound via Marree. Stop in at Coward Springs; visit the Bubbler and Mound Springs (natural artesian springs), Curdimurka (the site of the biannual outback ball) before arriving at Lake Eyre South. Arrive Marree for lunch. Visit Farina (original Ghan rail head), Ochre pits and the Leigh Creek open cut coalfield, travelling through the heart of the Flinders Ranges National Park to Wilpena Pound Resort. Overnight at Wilpena Pound Resort or Rawnsley Park Station (subject to availability).

. Day Four – (Optional 30 minute scenic flight available at Wilpena Pound Resort or Rawnsley Park Station). Before departing for Adelaide, travelling through the famous gorges of the Flinders, Bunyeroo Valley and Gorge (a geological journey through 320 million years). Arrive in Adelaide at approximately 1800 to 1830.

Flinders Ranges, Arkaroola Adventure Four Day Tour – AOA009

See the best that South Australia’s majestic Flinders Ranges has to offer. Fly (optional) around the spectacular geological formation called Wilpena Pound. Travel through the deep gorges of the Flinders Ranges National Park. Visit Mount Chambers Gorge, the most spectacular accessible gorge in the Flinders and view Aboriginal rock engravings thousands of years old. Enjoy the world famous Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary’s Ridge top Tour.

. Day One – Pick up from your hotel in the Adelaide central business district at 0730, travel in a modern, air-conditioned four wheel drive station wagon, 400 kilometres north via Port Augusta to Hawker for lunch. After lunch, we journey through the beautiful Moralana Scenic Drive before booking into our accommodation at the Wilpena Pound Resort or Rawnsley Park Station depending on the availability of accommodation. Walk into the Pound and climb Wangara Lookout to finish off the day if staying at Wilpena Resort.

. Day Two – Time for your optional scenic flight around the spectacular geological formation called Wilpena Pound before continuing our journey to Arkaroola as we travel through the heart of the Flinders Ranges via Bunyeroo Valley and Gorge, Brachina Gorge, Parachilna Gorge and Blinman. With abundance of wildlife in the area you could see kangaroos, emus and the graceful Wedge Tailed eagle. After lunch at Blinman we travel on to a four wheel drive trek into Mount Chambers Gorge, the most spectacular accessible gorge in the Flinders Ranges, view the gallery of ancient Aboriginal rock engravings, before continuing on into the Gammon Ranges National Park and the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary Resort.

. Day Three – Early breakfast before joining the exclusive, world famous, Arkaroola Ridge Top tour, travel through the creeks, valleys and over the ridges of the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, climaxing with an amazing view from Sillers lookout. After lunch capture more memories of the flora, fauna and rugged beauty of this wonderous, ancient area. After dark you may wish to tour the universe (optional) from Australia’s largest privately owned astronomical observatory.

. Day Four – Return to Adelaide via Copley and Leigh Creek, visit the historic township of Beltana (the Reverend John Flynn’s first outback posting) before stopping for lunch at Hawker. Continue on to Adelaide traveling to the east of the ranges through Quorn, Wilmington, Melrose and the famous wine producing Clare Valley. Sample some of the local produce, if time permits, before arriving at your Adelaide accommodation at approximately 1800 to 1830.

Lunch at Hawker before continuing on through the quality wine producing Clare Valley. Stop to sample some local produce, arrive in Adelaide at approximately 1800 to 1830.

Depart Adelaide, overnight at Coober Pedy, optional flight available over Lake Eyre from William Creek, local four wheel drive trek to Lake Eyre, overnight at William Creek, return to Adelaide via Flinders Ranges, Arkaroola Ridge Top tour (optional) and Wilpena Pound, scenic flight (optional).

Follow in the footsteps of the famous explorer John McDouall Stuart and the old Ghan railway, visit the true outback, see some of the harshest country in Australia, realise the hardship of people building the Ghan railway and the overland telegraph line, take a spectacular scenic flight over Lake Eyre (optional), enjoy the famous Arkaroola Ridge Top tour (optional) and around Wilpena Pound (optional). Return to Adelaide via the Flinders Ranges National Park, Bunyeroo Valley and Gorge and the spectacular Brachina Gorge. Finish off, time permitting by sampling the produce of the Clare Valley, famous for quality wine production.

. Day Three – Depart William Creek at approximately 0800 for Arkaroola travelling via the Oodnadatta Track and Marree. Visit Coward Springs; artesian springs the Bubbler and Mound Springs, Curdimurka, Lake Eyre South, before lunch at Marree. Visit the ruins of the ghost town of Farina (the original Old Ghan rail head), Lyndhurst Ochre Pits and the Leigh Creek open cut coalfields. Leave the desert behind as we enter the Gammon Ranges arriving Arkaroola at approximately 1830.
