Axio/Wait-a-while Rainforest Tours

Axio are soft adventure specialists of quality tours away from mainstream tourism in and around the World Heritage rainforest and hinterland areas of Cairns and Port Douglas in Far North Queensland who have been conducting ours in this area for over 23 years.

Individual tours are limited to six, 11 or 20 guests, depending on the vehicle and tour. Their scenic tours are designed to introduce visitors to the wonders of the Rainforest and allow you the experience of witnessing the native wildlife foraging freely in the rainforest with no encouragement or feeding allowed – purely observing nature in the company of experienced guides whose knowledge and enthusiasm delights you. You enjoy the challenge of finding wildlife with provided spotlights under the guidance of our amiable guides.

To experience the full majesty of the rainforest some of their tours operate during the day and nighttime being when the rainforest springs awake. With later departures in the day this allows you some relaxing time in the morning before lunchtime or mid afternoon departure or if you arrive into Cairns in the morning they can still do a tour and explore this area.

You can enjoy Skyrail in the morning before one of their tours which complements Axio tours perfectly enabling one to go over rainforest, and then they take you through the rainforest so you can see, smell and hear the rainforest and glimpse its inhabitants.

Their day tours explore Cape Tribulation, Daintree, Cairns Highlands, and remote Mount Lewis.

For Avid enthusiasts they run dedicated bird watching and wildlife tours, serious bush walks through rainforest and outback and they can run VIP private charters to suit most tastes and requirements.

Axio believe in sharing their enthusiasm for nature with visitors to this region.

This is the best tour for experiencing the great range of native Australian tropical wildlife in its habitat – ‘an unforgettable natural experience’.

The tour heads inland and up to the Atherton Tablelands via the Gilles Highway south of Cairns. You’ll visit a scenic Lake and a magnificent strangler fig tree both of which are great birding areas for short walks and for afternoon tea before platypus viewing, dinner at a local restaurant on the Tablelands at Yungaburra and then we venture into the permit controlled National Parks to spot a wonderful array of native wildlife.

This is a Four Wheel Drive tour on a dirt track into pristine stunning rainforest. You’ll have afternoon tea at "The Clearing". The knowledgeable guides discuss local history, the World Heritage Rainforest and its native wildlife. You’ll continue up to the top of Mount Lewis where a restaurant prepared picnic dinner is enjoyed by candlelight deep in this remote rainforest before we go spot lighting to see what wildlife inhabits the tropical rainforest.
