Adelaide to Alice Springs 10 Day Tour – BAT01

Overland style ten-day four wheel drive camping tour focusing on Aboriginal culture and the outback. Visit Uluru, Coober Pedy and Broken Hill.

. Day One – Meet our vehicle at 0700 at the Central Bus Station, Adelaide (111 Franklin Street). After tour briefing, we will leave the city behind us, and head for the Outback along the remote Barrier Highway to Broken Hill. There is time for a beer at the Silverton Hotel, dubbed ‘Hollywood of the Outback’ having been used as a set in many films, including ‘Mad Max 2’, ‘A Town Like Alice’ and the ‘XXXX beer’ commercials.

. Day Two – We visit the Royal Flying Doctor base at Broken Hill and check out the many artistic wonders of this remote mining town. A few hours down the road, we arrive at an outback at an outback sheep station, meet up with a few old mates and maybe even shear a sheep. Overnight bush camp in the sand dunes.

. Days Three to Four – We meander through the Flinders ranges to Iga Warta Aboriginal Community (Adnyamanthanha) where we spend tow nights around their campfire, enjoying some indigenous songs and storytelling. Overnight camp ground, with full facilities.

. Day Five – We head north up the Oodnadatta Track, following the route of the Old Ghan train and passing the Dingo Fence, to the saltpan of Lake Eyre. After a swim in the thermal springs, we stop for a beer in the remote pub of William Creek with a population of two. Overnight bush camp.

. Day Six to Seven – We continue by the moon plain to Coober Pedy, the world opal capital, where we visit some of its unique underground dwellings and mines. Head up the Stuart Highway across the Northern Territory border skirting the Musgrave Ranges to arrive at Uluru for sunset. Overnight bush camping.
