The Magic Carpet Ten Day Raft Safari – BSC16

Spend leisurely days drifting along the River Murray on a 20 feet by 16 feet traditional raft, one of the purest forms of relaxation yet devised. Most days are spent drifting on the river, stopping to visit interesting shore locations along the way. An inflatable dinghy is available for the exploration of the River Murray’s many fascinating backwaters. The raft is moored to the bank of the river most evenings and participants have the option of sleeping on or off the vessel.

Riverland Half Day Camel Trek – BSC09

Wildlife Way Nine Day Safari – BSC14

Experience South Australian wildlife and nature. Highlights include bush walking in the Southern Flinders Ranges, wetlands bird watching and boat trip, Aboriginal heritage, River Murray, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills.

. Day One – Pick up at 1400 from the hotel, drive through the Mount Lofty Ranges to Yookamurra. After dinner enjoy the evening walk and spend the night in cabin accommodation.

. Day Two – Start the day with dawn walk followed by breakfast. Drive via the Clare Valley to Quorn for morning tea with Brian Powell. Continue onto the Southern Flinders Ranges and into Buckaringa Gorge to see the Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby. Return to Quorn for overnight accommodation at the Transcontinental Hotel.

. Day Three – Next morning drive across the Willochra Plain to lunch stop at the big gum tree. Continue onto Orroroo, and via the old Dawson ghost town to Oodlawirra township. Visit Aboriginal rock carving site before travelling onto Pitcairn Station Homestead. Here enjoy traditional Station meals and stay for the night.

. Day Four – This morning continue on via a remote bush track to Braemar Station, then on via Lilydale, Quandong and Loch Lily Stations to Scotia Sanctuary. Here take an evening walk, enjoy catering by the Bush Safari Co and stay overnight in the Old Terrara Station Homestead.

. Day Five – Enjoy a morning walk on Scotia spending sometime viewing the animals, before driving on tracks through Danggali Conservation Park, part of the Bookmark Biosphere, to Canopus Station Homestead for overnight accommodation in the Old Shearers Quarters.

. Day Six – Next morning, spend some time bird watching, then drive onto Chowilla Station. Spend the afternoon in the wetlands. Stay overnight in the Shearers Quarters by the Woolshed on the banks of the River Murray.

. Day Seven – Today head for Lake Merreti on Calperum Station for some bird watching, then onto Paringa for a fascinating hour with Dudley and Lila Frahn, the spider people. Travel across to Gluepot Station and then down to Morgan for overnight accommodation at one of the town’s hotels.

. Day Eight – This morning travel back to Binda, Murray River Camel Farm for a two hour and thirty minute boat trip, including a visit to a large island, where you will get to observe koalas. After lunch proceed onto Norwest Bend Museum. Then on via the Barossa Valley and the Adelaide Hills to Warrawong Sanctuary for a restaurant dinner and an evening walk. Stay overnight in luxury cabins.

. Day Nine – After a walk at dawn and breakfast, load up vehicle and return to the Grosvenor Hotel, Adelaide by mid morning.

Boats Through The Desert Ten Day Safari – BSC05

Experience a unique adventure safari exploring an inland desert river system. Our journey begins near the Birdsville Track on the Warburton River, travelling through some of the most inaccessible country in Australia between the Tirari and Simpson Desert. We eventually leave the cattle country behind as we near Lake Eyre. As we break out into the wide expanse of water, we encounter huge flocks of pelicans and other water birds. We finally reach the mouth of the Warburton River and the vast inland sea that is Lake Eyre where we set up camp on its shore. Massive recent rains in the catchment have produced abnormal flooding and excellent local rains, guarantee prolific wildflowers and animals life. For a short period of time this river creates spectacular beauty in one of the world’s most desolate regions. River scapes include huge red sand dunes cascading into the river, colourful gypsum cliffs and riverbanks of weird shapes, caused by wind and water erosion. There are beautiful River Red gums (upper reaches) and lovely gnarled Coolabah trees lining the banks. These eventually fade out as the salinity of the Lake Eyre region precludes such growth. This is a river that rises and falls quickly and the art of a successful trip is being able to accurately predict these rises and falls. The consequences of becoming stranded can be large search and recovery costs.

. The next three days are spent travelling back to our vehicle, located part way down the river, and on the final two days we return to Adelaide via the Birdsville Track and the Flinders Ranges. The tour includes six days boating and four days, four wheel drive touring. Bush Safari Co is well accustomed to these inland river safaris, offering similar trips, when possible, since 1972. Our boats have canopies to protect us from the sun’s ultra violet rays and seating is particularly comfortable when travelling. Participants need to be in good health and relatively fit. Catering is of our usual excellent standard, with beer, wine and other beverages supplied.

MV Water Rat Murray/Backwater Six Day Tour – BSC21

MV Water Rat Murray Backwater Six Day Tour is an excellent comprehensive coverage of South Australia’s river lands. It comprises gum covered river flats, a great variety of spectacular cliffs, Aboriginal and European history and of course the ever present wildlife which is expertly interpreted by Rex Ellis. Several locks are negotiated, meet local people and experience a variety of river habitat with the wetlands being a major highlight. Ample opportunity for swimming and fishing both from the boat and our idyllic campsites. Excellent camp cooking and plenty of bush yarns. The Water Rat is a six metre aluminium boat offering great comfort and excellent vision. It is particularly quiet and its shallow draught allows us to access areas closed to larger boats.

. Day One – Depart Murray River Camel Farm and inspect Aboriginal and European historical sites. Up river we visit the Broken Cliff Fossils and an island koala colony in the Toolunka Lagoon Complex. Past the town of Waikerie and spectacular cliffs to our overnight camp.

. Day Two – Past more dramatic cliffs, a rare Aboriginal cave and then to the magnificent Loch Luna Wetlands. Overnight camp in the Loch Luna Complex.

. Day Three – A fascinating journey down the Chambers Creek and into Lake Bonney. From here we load ‘Water Rat’ on to a trailer, then visit the ‘spider people’ before we travel to the Border Cliffs Store. Back in the river to our overnight camp in the thick Delemere Forest.

. Day Four – Today we travel over the border and up to the Lindsay Creek and Lindsay Island. Travel up Lindsay Creek to our overnight camp.

. Day Five – Inspect a large almond processing complex. Back down the river visiting several small backwaters. Lunch in the famous Chowilla Wetlands, then to Chowilla Sheep Station for our overnight stay. Dinner at the historic old Chowilla Homestead. Overnight Shearers Quarters accommodation on the banks of the river.

. Day Six – Into another area of Chowilla Wetlands, visiting interesting Aboriginal features to Border Cliffs. Return upstream to the Murray River Camel Farm.

Australian Wildlife 14 Day Safari – BSC20

Australian Wildlife 14 Day Safari has a specialist itinerary giving the opportunity to observe up to 30 native animal species in their natural habitat, no other Australian itinerary can match this. Included are some species that are being rehabilitated after near extinction such as Numbats, Bettongs, Bilbies and certain wallaby species. These have been captive bred, then released into very large sanctuaries that have been cleared of all large predators such as cats and foxes and we visit several of these sanctuaries. We concentrate throughout on the bird life, with an excellent opportunity of seeing some of Australia’s rarest species like the Black-eared Miner, the Red-lored Whistler and of course the Mallee fowl. Some National Parks are included in our visits, but much of this wildlife will be observed in private locations. Visitors will get the opportunity to meet some outback Australians with overnights stays on sheep stations, and almost two days on Kangaroo Island. A short boat cruise on the Murray River is included and the magnificent Flinders Ranges is yet another feature. We will have a boat trip with an overnight stay on the unique Coorong and many other unusual and interesting visits are part of this tour. Overnight stays are a mixture of camping and accommodated ranging from sheep station homesteads and motels to shearers quarters and safari camps. Our camp cooking is second to none.

. Day One – Pick up guests from Adelaide accommodation. Picnic lunch in the Adelaide Hills and then travel to Yookamurra Sanctuary. See and film the Hairy-nosed Wombats at a private location and an evening guided walk. Overnight accommodation at Yookamurra Sanctuary.

. Day Two – Dawn guided walk, then travel through the Clare Valley wine region to the Flinders Ranges. Visit the unique ‘salt garden’ and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea. To the Buckaringa Gorge Sanctuary to see the exquisite Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby and other macropods. Overnight camping accommodation.

. Day Three – We travel through the Flinders Ranges seeing Red Kangaroos, Western Grey Kangaroos, Euros (Wallaroo or Hills kangaroo) and Emus. Overnight homestead accommodation at Pitcairn Station.

. Day Four – Travel through interesting semi-desert country, abounding in Red Kangaroos and Emus to Scotia Sanctuary. Enjoy an evening wildlife walk. Overnight homestead accommodation.

. Day Five – Enjoy a morning walk to see Numbats, Bettongs, Wallaby species, Mallee fowl and other interesting wildlife before we travel through interesting semi-desert bush to Chowilla Station on the River Murray. Overnight homestead accommodation.

. Day Six – Today is spent searching for one of Australia’s rarest bird species, the Black-eared Minor, plus other hard to see mallee bird species. Overnight shearers’ quarters accommodation.

. Day Seven – Visit the ‘Spider People’ for an interesting insight into the wonders of many Australian spiders. Then on to Binda, the Murray River Camel Farm, owned by your host and safari guide. A boat trip on the Murray will include local history, Aboriginal sites, bird life. Overnight safari camp accommodation.

. Day Eight – Today we travel via Barossa Valley wine area, Mount Lofty Ranges to the ferry that will take us to Kangaroo Island. Here we will see Fairy Penguins. Overnight motel accommodation.

. Day Nine – Travel around the island seeing Australian Sea Lions (walk amongst them), fur seals, Tamar Wallabies, Kangaroo Island kangaroos and with a good chance of seeing the rare Glossy Black Cockatoo and much, much more. Overnight cabin accommodation.

. Day Ten – We catch the ferry back to the mainland for a boat trip on the Coorong, a beautiful waterway that includes Lake Alexandrina. Overnight at a floating safari camp.

. Day Eleven – Today we travel to South Australia’s south east to a farm stay. Spotlighting at night for the Red-necked Wallaby and the common wombat. Overnight farm stay accommodation.

. Day Twelve – Travel to Glenelg River to Tolka to see the Eastern Grey Kangaroo and possibly the Swamp Wallaby. There is also Red-tailed Black and Gang Gang Cockatoos and many other species. Overnight Tolka farm stay accommodation.

. Day Thirteen – A lazy start viewing more wildlife before heading back to Mount Lofty Ranges and Warrawong Sanctuary. We will have an evening wildlife walk, enjoy a delicious restaurant dinner and spend a very comfortable overnight accommodation in a unique tent style cabins.

. Day Fourteen – After a dawn wildlife walk and a hot breakfast we return to Adelaide and arrive at approximately 1100.
