Sonjas Bed & Breakfast, Lightning Ridge

Sonja’s Bed & Breakfast – your home away from home in Lightning Ridge, the heart of Australia’s black opal country. Up to 10 people can enjoy comfortable accommodation with a choice of continental or hearty cooked breakfast served in the dining area. Evening meals are available by arrangement.

From Sonja’s B&B you are just a stone’s throw away from rejuvenating in the therapeutic waters of the Hot Artesian Baths. Visit John Murray’s Art Gallery and other local arts and crafts, or the fascinating Amigo’s Castle and Astronomer’s Monument. Kangaroos, wallabies and birds are plentiful on the opal fields just a short stroll from Sonja’s. Try your luck fossicking for opal, and don’t forget to relax on the balcony to watch our magical sunrises and sunsets.

Lightning Ridge hosts a range of special events throughout the year, such as the Opal and Gem Festival in July, the Easter Goat and Horse Races, Arts & Crafts Spring Exhibition, pistol shoots and bowling carnivals. Please contact us to find out dates.

We have four themed rooms with homely furniture, comfortable beds with quality linen and doonas.

Miners Room – has view out over the opal fields, a queen-sized bed and leather lounge.

Sunset Room – romantic atmosphere, a decor of gold, orange and violet inspired by our famous sunsets. Has a leather lounge and a queen-sized bed.

Butterfly Room – a comfy room and sitting area named after a famous black opal.

Opal Room – features photographs of famous opal gemstones; double bed.

Sonja’s is a perfect home base for a visit to the fascinating opal mining town of Lightning Ridge, on the edge of the outback in northwestern NSW.

Opal Room

Themed in blue and white, with photographs of famous opals. Double bed and beautiful wooden venetian blinds to let in natural light or provide complete privacy.
