Jonahs, Sydney Suburbs

Jonah’s, Whale Beach is one of Australia’s most prestigious ocean retreats located just 45 minutes from Sydney on the northern beaches Peninsula, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Offering the perfect beach-side escape, Jonah’s has become a Sydney institution, known for its location, the 180 degree view, luxurious suites, famous guests and acclaimed restaurant.

Traditionally built as a roadhouse in 1929, Jonah’s salubrious guest list has included Laurence Olivier, Anthony Hopkins, Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall. Jonah’s offers 11 exquisitely appointed suites including 1 penthouse and a renowned restaurant which welcomes guests and visitors on a daily basis.

Jonah’s has seen many changes in its lifetime and at the end of 2004 celebrated the completion of two years of extensive refurbishments. All rooms now feature king-size beds and private terraces overlooking the ocean, as well as limestone bathrooms with Jacuzzi baths in every bathroom, situated so guests can lie back, draw back the shutters and enjoy the spectacular view.

Three of Jonah’s suites are located in ‘Jonah’s Private’, a secluded residence adjacent to the main lodge featuring a large private balcony, swimming pool and garden. Luxurious and discreet, Jonah’s prides itself on its friendly and casual atmosphere whilst offering outstanding first class service.

Since 2001, Jonah’s restaurant has offered modern Australian cuisine by award winning Chef Richard Purdue. With his pupilage under Neil Perry and Steve Manfredi, Richard’s cooking has both Asian and Italian influences with a strong seafood focus. Simplicity is paramount for Richard, with the creating being done behind the scenes through outstanding produce and vision rather than through decoration on the plate.

The recent refurbishment includes a new verandah on the cliffs of Whale Beach overlooking the Pacific Ocean, offering diners a breathtaking spot to enjoy an aperitif or after dinner coffee. With summer on its way, this new space will be a ‘must-be’ place to visit for both locals and Sydney visitors wishing to enjoy the Australian sunshine.
