Colac Station, Quilpie

Colac Station is a 68,000 hectare sheep and cattle property 50 kilometres east of Quilpie on the watershed between the Darling and Bulloo River catchments.

There is a fully self-contained two bedroom cottage one hundred metres form the main homestead, and a queen bedroom in the homestead with its own bathroom and toilet. All bedrooms are air-conditioned. All meals are available, as are property or district tours.

Quilpie has a twice weekly air and rail service. Colac is 190 kilometres west of Charleville and is on the road to Birdsville and Longreach via Jundah. Colac extends from open sand plain country to rugged gorge country along the watershed.

Most meals are eaten outside, when weather permits, where the garden is like an oasis compared to the rich red soil surrounding the homestead.

Colac normally runs 12,000 Merino sheep and 500 mainly Hereford cattle. Opal fossicking is easily available as a day excursion.

Accommodation Options

The two bedroom cottage contains one queen bedroom and one twin room and a share bathroom which is suitable for a self-catering holiday. Alternatively, you may choose to have meals provided either at the cottage or at the homestead with your hosts.
