Gidgee Inn, Cloncurry

An oasis in an outback landscape the Gidgee Inn Motel was built in 1997 using Cloncurry‘s rich red soils and phonetically named after the local Gidyea tree.

Multiple winner of the Outback Queensland Tourism Award for Superior Accommodation the motel features 40 rooms all beautifully outfitted in Australian style on one level. Jarrah furnishings and spinifex coloured carpet compliment the spacious rooms complete with en-suite, refrigerative split system air conditioning, ceiling fan, remote control television, coffee and tea making facilities and mini bar to name just a few features. All rooms have their own undercover car park and are set in luscious gardens complete with in-ground salt water pool and barbecue area.

The Gourmet Traveller listed Bar and Grill, an a la carte restaurant with adjoining bar is the perfect spot to unwind after a long day. The Gidgee Grill menu, which changes regularly, features a selection of top quality barramundi and beef sourced fresh from the gulf and surrounding areas.

For groups they also offer the Gidgee Buffet and can supply a special dinner, bed and breakfast package. Off-street coach parking and wash down bay is available on site.

Cloncurry is at the hub of the world’s largest mineral province and they offer mine tours to Ernest Henry Mine. The Mary Kathleen Memorial Park, situated a short walk from the Gidgee Inn, features a museum and is an memorial to the uranium mining town of the early 1950s. John Flynn started the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) at Cloncurry in 1927 and to commemorate his great work John Flynn Place was established together with a RFDS Museum.
